Following and syncing ourselves to the moon cycles through ritual and sacred ceremony is a way you can give yourself more permission to also connect with your Shakti energy, the creative force of the divine feminine.
Creating ceremonies in alignment with moon cycles is one of the ways I acknowledge and honour that my spiritual being is having a human experience. As I’ve followed the moon cycles, I’ve also noticed a greater understanding and love towards my emotional processes, triggers, and lessons. I’d love for you to have that same experience.
For this coming Full Moon in Taurus on Wednesday Oct 24th, allow yourself to connect to the earthy energy of this moon through engaging ALL of your senses. Taurus is a Venus-ruled sign, and with this planet currently in retro-grade, you might find yourself in need of some extra TLC. I’ve got some great suggestions for you.
FULL MOON IN TAURUS EMBODIMENT CELEBRATION
With the Sun in Scorpio opposite Moon in Taurus, there is a solid need to be grounded in the practical and material realities of life. Celebrate this Full Moon by savouring the capacity of your body to drop into all of it’s senses. Over the day and evening tomorrow try at least 2 of the following practices:
- Walking barefoot on the earth
- Cooking a comfort meal from scratch and savouring each bite
- Put on your favourite classical piece of music, close your eyes and luxuriate in the sounds
- Delighting your body with a sensuous rose petal bath with your favourite essential oils
- Enjoy 20 connected, circular breaths
- Some good ol’ fashioned loving
I encourage you to make these practices real celebrations. The mundane can always be sacred if we infuse our actions with reverence and intention. Notice how the experience shifts and deepens when you are fully present.
If you appreciate these rituals, you are going to LOVE the guidance and rituals in the upcoming Embracing Shakti Movement: Free 13 Day Journey of Embracing and Celebrating Shakti! It’s almost ready to be birthed and I can’t wait to share it with all of you. Stay tuned for how you can join this intimate journey with me.
love & pranams,
Energy is quite a fascinating element to our world. The sun feeds us with it’s glorious rays of Vitamin D or a human can connect with the power to magnify our existences into the stratosphere of orgasma.
Pranayama is talked about frequently in the world of Yoga, for it is the life force (prana) that we have inside of us which we draw out (yama). In short, the energy of ourselves.
It is easy to ignore this aspect of Yoga while we focus on posture or nomenclature, for these are also important aspects of a Yogi’s toolkit. For an all aware and fully conscious life, it would do each of us good to remember how our prana flows within and without of our beings in each moment of the day.
Do you like crystals?
I believe crystals can have enormous amounts of power within them. The secrets each crystal can share with us! Can you comprehend the secrets of the galaxy?! I can’t! It overwhelms me thinking of something packed with millions of years compression energy of the earth’s gravity.
Do you have a favourite energy source like a crystal or perhaps another talisman? I’d love to see.
Shakti is divine cosmic energy representing the dynamic feminine force of creation that moves through the universe. It is a powerful current that can move mountains, bask in deep stillness and rejuvenate your Spirit ~ yet so many women are disconnected from the vital energy of Shakti in their lives.
For more than 5,000 years the expression of the divine feminine has been both feared and suppressed. And while in the 21st century many women are living a life radically different from generations past, in many ways we are simply card carrying citizens in a masculine world. We are driven, competitive and adept at multi-tasking and muscling through life. The result is that we are tired, overwhelmed, passion-deprived, devoid of creative energy and completely disconnected to our vital, feminine energy. We are conditioned to fit into a small definition of what it means to be feminine and to ignore the many forms of Shakti that embody the whole of the feminine experience. Often we feel obligated to reject the parts of us that society deems not ‘nice’, ‘passive’, ‘feminine’ or ‘womanly’.
Being in alignment with your Shakti power gives you permission to embrace all of the feminine, including some of the shadow aspects like the ‘dark goddess’, fierce warrior’, ‘goddess of pleasure’, ‘mystic’ and ‘goddess of destruction’. These are just some of the many facets of Shakti that are necessary to embody the full spectrum of feminine power.
This is your birthright
It is your reclamation
It is necessary in these times
How can I start to connect into this energy inside me? First we need to get things moving in our bodies. Let me share with you an easy practice to begin to connect to your Shakti:
Shakti energy sits coiled in our root and sacral chakras, so consciously connecting with this energy can support the opening and flow of her up your spine. Any rolling, sensuous, fluid movements like standing circles or cat/cow can begin flowing this Shakti energy throughout your body.
Put on some juicy music that you love moving your body to. On your mat, begin slowing moving your spine in cat/cow, and focusing on the easeful flow of your inhale/exhale. Allow the movements to become freer and more sensual. Let your spine and pelvis move organically in a way that really feels good. Let your breath be expansive and luxurious – you can sigh out the breath audibly to invite more flow.
Focus your attention on the space below your navel, and feel the energy uncoil. You may experience a tingling, buzzing sensation in the body or something entirely different. Your experience of Shakti will be unique to you. Allow yourself to feel the energy expand, move and flow up your spine. Keep breathing and enjoy.
So simple, so effective. I’d love to know how this experience with Shakti was for you, just hit reply and tell me all about it!
love & pranams,
This mudra is known as the energy mudra. It supports the removal of waste materials and toxins in the body. Apan mudra has a balancing effect on the mind and helps provide us with patience, serenity, confidence, inner balance and harmony. Apana means downward moving. Place the thumb, middle finger and ring finger of each hand together and extend the other fingers. Rest the back on the hands on the knees, palms up.
Since the dawn of time, humans have looked up at the night sky in awe and wonder of the mystery and power of the heavens above. And although every night can seem magical, there are some nights that are uniquely special. Tonight, for those of us in the Western Hemisphere and for the first time in 150 years, we will be able to witness a Super Blood Blue Full Moon Total Lunar Eclipse. Phew, that’s a mouthful. Let me break this down for you.
A Super Moon is when the moon is extra close to Earth so it appears bigger, brighter (by as much as 14%) and as a result has more effect on our moods & energy levels. We know that tides are higher during full moons due to increasing gravitational forces. And seeing as the human body is about 75 percent water, we too can be affected more fully by our own inner tides during full and new moons.
A Blue Moon is the name given to a second full moon that falls within the same calendar month (our first full moon in January was on the 1st). This is not common, hence the term ‘once in a blue moon’.
A Blood Moon occurs only when there is a total lunar eclipse. This happens when the Moon passes directly behind the Earth into its umbra (shadow) and the Sun, Earth & Moon are in complete alignment. A small amount of the Sun’s light is projected as a reddish shadow on the face of the moon making it appear red. If you were up early this morning you might have witnessed this amazing event. The ancients observed that during the time around a total lunar eclipse blood moon, there was a greater likelihood of the masculine shadow (represented by the Sun) being projected on the light of the feminine (represented by the Moon).
This full moon is moving from Cancer into Leo which is the sign of sacred kingship and embodied leadership. You may find your mind particularly on point and bursting with creative ideas. It is a powerful opportunity to embrace both change and intensity. Here are a few ideas to celebrate tonight:
- Put on some of your favourite wild music and dance. Leo is all about play so let your inner lion out to roar! Allow the intensity of the music to inspire you to move fully into your personal expression of power. One of my favourite things to do during ecstatic dance is to allow my movements to express my personal prayers.
- Set an altar with your usual favourites, but also include things that are yellow in colour. If you are into crystals, labradorite and pyrite and good choices for adorning this space.
- Take some time to journal about your relationship to power. Our society tends to equate power with the usual masculine paradigms of status, wealth & authority. Challenge some of those ingrained assumptions you might have about asserting your own personal power. Can you exert influence in a more inclusive and feminine manner that is still strong, grounded and authentic?
- Be sure to practice good pre-sleep hygiene after your rituals above. Many people do not sleep well on the full moon and the next day often experience a Full Moon hangover. Take a soothing bath, turn off all the electronics at least 2 hours before going to bed, take some extra magnesium (or throw some epsom salts in the bath), enjoy a good book or do a very restorative yoga practice. Above all, give yourself some space to really relax before going to sleep.
Are you drawn to observe this special cosmic event tonight? Let me know and drop me a line anytime. And I’d especially love a picture of your altar if you create one!
love & pranams,
